“The confidence drops” – A glum Cesar Azpilicueta reacts to another poor Chelsea performance

Yet another poor Chelsea performance was on display last night as they only managed a 1-1 draw against a struggling Everton side.

The visitors offered nothing, and their goal came from one of just a few attacks they had all game, which makes it even harder to swallow the fact we could not beat them. It’s a massive three points dropped against a very poor side. Chelsea should have been 4-0 up inside the first 45 minutes but their finishing was absolutely terrible.

The second half performance was lacklustre and unimaginative as Everton looked to get back in the game so more, but Chelsea only have themselves to blame once again and this marked a string of 6 games in a row now where the performances haven’t been great.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta was glum after the game when offering his verdict, as reported by the Chelsea Website. And I swear these guys have these reactions on notes on their phones because I swear I’ve heard these exact words far too often as a Blues fan!

“We are disappointed and frustrated because it’s not the first time we have dropped points recently,’ the skipper said.

“We created chances and nearly the first time they approached our box we conceded. We know how important it is to keep clean sheets as a team, defend together, and of course when we concede a lot of goals, the confidence drops and it is not as easy.

“We are not a defensive team but of course we have to concede less goals if we want to get where we want to get.

“When you want to compete for a Premier League title against these two teams [Man City and Liverpool], who have shown how consistent they are, you cannot drop points. It makes it more difficult but there is still a long way to go.”

  1. There are no easy games in the PL. You have to earn every point. Everton earned their point by hard work and good defending. Chelsea are miles away from City and the Red Sh!te.
