Thomas Tuchel gives N’Golo Kante minutes after all as big guns come on to earn win

N’Golo Kante had only just come back from a month out injured when Thomas Tuchel called him into action against Wolves at the weekend, and the midfielder was forced to play for 90 minutes in the end as his team chased a winning goal.

His manager Thomas Tuchel said in his press conference ahead of tonight’s game against Brentford in the EFL Cup that he had been “irresponsible£ using him for that long, and seemed to indicate he wouldn’t feature even in the squad tonight.

Instead, not only was he in the squad, he was subbed on, and set up Chelsea’s vital first goal with some brilliant play.

He totally changed the game, and made tonight into what was ultimately a nice win with no injuries or goals conceded. That’s worth an extra 15 minutes on the clock for him in a long season, frankly.

We don’t know whether it was a bluff from Tuchel or whether Kante had just impressed in the session yesterday, but either way we’re glad he was included after all.
