Edouard Mendy, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have all been named among the 23 players on the FIFPro World XI shortlist for 2021.
This award is voted for the by the players, giving it a different flavour and a different makeup to those voted for by journalists or fans. Unfortunately, it leads to almost as many injustices – we won’t go into some of the names who made it to the list or some who missed out, it’s just not worth it.

Chelsea’s victory in the Champions League, as well as Italy’s victory in the Euros, still weigh heavily in the choices, evidently.
The goalkeeper with the highest number of votes, will be chosen for the World XI, along with the three defenders, three midfielders and three attackers with more votes than their rivals.
That makes ten, with the outfield player with the most votes who didn’t make top 3 in their position joining them.
