Tuchel responds to full time boos at Stamford Bridge

At full time on Thursday, there was a wave of booing at Stamford Bridge.

It wasn’t really clear exactly who it was aimed it, but it certainly communicated the sense of frustration that the fans have been feeling in the last month or so.

Once again, Thomas Tuchel’s team had dominated their opposition, creating many chances and conceding few, but they had walked away with just a point to show for it.

Under normal circumstances a frustrating game, but not worth boos. The problem is that we’ve seen the same thing happening time and again in these last few games, and clearly the frustration had built up.

Thomas Tuchel was asked about the fans’ reaction in the press conference held yesterday.

“Okay booing happens, but I don’t think it was for the performance. The people were disappointed. They came to support us and in the end they were disappointed and we were as well,” the German coach explained in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.

“I refuse to take it personally. These things happen and I can just tell everyone that we need the support, we need the players at the top level and we need the supporters at the top level. Especially when things get a bit tough and a bit tight.”

He’s spot on. It’s hardly like the fans have turned on him for good, they just feel frustrated by a couple of bad performances. A win against Wolves and there will be smiles on faces again.

He’s a popular figure at Stamford Bridge and a superb manager – we’re delighted he can understand the fans are just frustrated at how things have gone, not blaming him.
