When Romelu Lukaku came on at half time of Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa tonight, most people thought it was because the away team had lacked cutting edge, and their formation was struggling to cope with Villa.
But speaking after the game, Thomas Tuchel insisted it was planned. He explained that Lukaku was only fit for 45 minute at a time, and that the change was planned from the start.
It certainly worked – after not threatening with Christian Pulisic up top in the first half, Chelsea suddenly looked potent in the second.
