There was no press conference yesterday for a change as Chelsea prepare to take on Brighton in the Premier League this evening, this was due to it being a bank holiday in the UK.
However, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has given some words to the Chelsea website regardless, and the subject once again as it has become so common right now, was about Covid-19 and how it is effecting football and team selections, and more importantly, aggravating injuries.
It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!
Tuchel bemoans how he has been forced to play certain players such as N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic when they have not been fully fit due to missing players in centre midfield, and he even admits that players who have had three vaccinations have still been infected with Covid-19 in the camp.
Chelsea have had players that have had Covid-19 as well as being injured at the same time, creating a real double whammy of problems.
“We have infected people who have three vaccinations, we have infected players without vaccination, so we have everything.
“If you just speak about central midfield, let’s assume that maybe N’Golo is out [of the Brighton game], maybe Ruben is still out, so one [positive] test in central midfield is enough for the thing to collapse again, because then Kova will play again 90 minutes but from where, from out of nothing, and you risk injuries.
“This is what we do at the moment. I cannot see how we are out of Covid threat at the moment as it does not feel like it.
“We waited for that and in the end we take N’Golo Kante out in the first match where they are together. Kante came off in the 63rd minute with pain in the same place as the knee injury suffered against Juventus in November.”
