Chelsea walked away from the Brentford Community Stadium with a 2-0 win last night, and it would be easy to remember that as a game they cruised to victory.
That wasn’t the case though – both goals came late, and only after Thomas Tuchel had significantly strengthened his lineup with subs from the first team.
Brentford coach Thomas Frank was frustrated that his team had let the Blues get away with a win, and after the game he bemoaned the differences in quality between the squads, picking out one name as an example.
“They started with Saul. I don’t know what he cost this summer, but it’s at least three times the money we used on one of our signings in the summer and he can’t even get a sniff in the team,” the manager said in his post match interview.
He’s right of course – Saul is a quality player who has basically been considered a joke at Chelsea so far. That’s partly testament to how bad he’s been, but also shows the crazy quality around him, even in a game like last night’s where we’re forced to use youngsters and squad players.
He continued a run of better performances last week, and looks like he’s finally getting out of his rut.
