Thomas Tuchel explains why he is confident of a good performance versus Lille this week

The action is coming in thick and fast for Thomas Tuchel and his Chelsea players this week with two more important games.

They have a chance of winning more silverware at the weekend in the Carabao Cup final, but before that there is the first leg of the knockout rounds Champions League game versus Lille.

Chelsea will need to be fully on their game this week to make it a very successful one, and Thomas Tuchel is confident of a good performance against Lille on Tuesday night.

The Blues have been described as a cup team recently with more success and good form coming there rather than in the league, where they have been stuttering in the last couple of months.

But it is that reason that Tuchel is confident that his side will do well on Tuesday, because we have proven to be so good in knockout games and cup runs recently.

“We should not think too much of how others could see us as the favourites against Lille,” Tuchel told the Chelsea website.

“We have to accept at the moment it’s a phase where things feel a bit tight and more difficult than other times. This is the situation for the match on Tuesday.

“It’s important to be realistic and not over-expect from us, and accept games against midtable teams can become difficult. Once we accept that, it’s the first step to feel a certain freedom and become better.

“We are confident of having a good performance because we deliver on a high level in knockout matches, cup matches, Champions League matches. We have the fans behind us. We go step by step, and we will ready to fight with them on an okay level.”
