Cobham Chelsea training ground

Chelsea training ground is “in the middle of the storm”

Thomas Tuchel’s press conference is later this afternoon, but interestingly the Chelsea manager has some comments already up on the club’s website from earlier this morning.

To be fair, it’s been a week of absolute chaos at Chelsea.

Fresh from a Champions League win, the club were preparing for a Sunday cup final against Liverpool when Roman Abramovich dropped a statement declaring he would be handing over control of the club.

Nobody knew what it really meant – and that’s basically still true now. It was followed up by another statement condemning what’s happened in Ukraine. Again, nobody really knows who wrote it or for what purpose, and it’s ended up backfiring to a degree as well.

Tuchel’s comments seem aimed to point out that things are all ok at Cobham, but it makes things sound pretty dramatic.

“In the middle of the storm, it’s pretty calm and this is what we try to have at Cobham in our training ground,” said the Chelsea manager.

“This is what we try to install in easier times and in rougher times so that everybody feels safe and appreciated.

“When we are together, we can allow ourselves to focus on what we love the most, which is playing football, training football and taking care about our big passion.

“This is what we do. We know that there are bigger things going on than football but still we are very privileged. There is no doubt about it and this is how we feel.”

If they think this is going to reduce the number of questions he gets about Roman and the club overall at the press conference, we’re afraid that might be from the same school of wishful thinking as releasing that statement.
