Ruben Loftus-Cheek names every position he’s played in

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was expected to go on loan this season, but having stayed put he’s actually played quite a lot of minutes.

Thomas Tuchel used him initially with Mateo Kovacic out and N’Golo Kante unable to stay fit regularly. But since Kovacic’s return, Loftus-Cheek has had to pick up minutes wherever he can.

The fact he ended last week’s game against Burnley and this week’s against Norwich Norwich added a whole new position to his wheelhouse, which he showed off in an impressive quote on the Chelsea official website where he listed every position he’s played in over the year:

“I can play anywhere in midfield, and now obviously in defence. I played on the left or right of midfield in a 4-4-2 at Crystal Palace, I’ve played as an attacking midfielder for England, at Chelsea under Antonio Conte I played as a striker for a bit and I came on at Burnley at right wing-back last week.”

Today he will likely be on the bench once again, but his superb flexibility means we could still see him pop up in all manner of unlikely places later in the game.

Eventually, it’s likely RLC will want to go somewhere where he can play in midfield every week, but for now it’s great to see him on the pitch, in whatever form.
