Ahtletic: Jim Ratcliffe not out the race to buy Chelsea

The Chelsea ownership takeover saga could well have taken a new turn.

Yesterday there was a very dramatic afternoon of events when it transpired that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had entered the race to buy Chelsea Football Club in the 11th hour.

Sources: Thomas Tuchel’s summer transfer targets revealed!

This then started a string of events unfolding like dominos that led to Sir Martin Broughton and Stephen Pagliuca being ruled out the race, and it becoming a two-horse race between Todd Boehly and Ratcliffe.

This is when the confusion really began. Basically every outlet then started reporting that Boehly had been chosen as the preferred bidder and had entered exclusive talks with Chelsea to seal the deal.

However, an article from The Athletic on Saturday morning suggests that Ratcliffe is not totally out of the race.

They claim that Boehly’s group has NOT yet entered into an exclusivity agreement with Chelsea and while in theory they have a week to complete a deal, the process has taken on new look. Jim Ratcliffe’s bid has not been ruled out and was sent directly to Chelsea and not Raine.

A report also from the Guardian has backed that up.
