Chelsea advances were rejected by Barcelona man who signs new contract at Camp Nou

Chelsea are going to lose two of their first choice central defenders this summer, with both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger heading out of the door – to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

That’s going to leave them desperately short of defenders, without giving them any new funds to spend – so free transfers of their own would obviously be a priority.

They appear to have tried for a player who had just one year left on his deal – but their efforts have come to nothing.

ESPN have quotes from Ronald Araujo, long linked to the Blues, who admits he had major offers from the Premier League but ended up signing a new deal at the Nou Camp.

“I had really big offers from abroad, but I’m happy at Barcelona,” the Uruguay international explained.

That’s a blow for the Blues, who will now have to watch Araujo teaming up with Christensen at the back, potentially for years to come.
