Chelsea beat West Ham United 1-0 in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge yesterday afternoon.
The whole game was a bit flat and although Chelsea held the lion share of possession as they normally do, they were very lacklustre and lacked intensity to break their opponents down. We all feared the worst at Stamford Bridge once again, a place where we have failed to be strong at recently.
Thomas Tuchel would love to sign Declan Rice at Chelsea this summer.
However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 90th minute when substitute Christian Pulisic came on and delivered a very composed finish from a Marcos Alonso cross to win the game for Chelsea.
The USA international is having to make do with a bench role mostly under Thomas Tuchel, but he believes he has sent him a message with that goal and proven that he deserves to be out there.
He was speaking after the match as cited by the Chelsea website.
“It was a massive goal. We had so much pressure on them for most of the game but we couldn’t get that breakthrough, so I am happy I was able to help out,” Pulisic said.
“I always want to be on the pitch, to help my team and I am glad I got the opportunity today. We played a good match and we got our deserved goal in the end.
“I needed to come in and make a difference, prove I want to be playing and I am happy I did that.”
