Chelsea’s team for the game against Real Madrid is out, and it sees the Blues return to a 343 formation.
We’re not sure whether it’s Cesar Azpilicueta at left wing back and Reece James at right wing back, or the other way round. But the essential shape is the tried and tested formula that has served Thomas Tuchel so well for over a year now.
The 4141 we used against Brentford at the weekend just didn’t work for us, but that was also in part due to some rotation in the side.

We now have our strongest lineup available on the pitch, plus a shape that we have more experience using.
Against a team that will look to control the ball, like Madrid, this shape gives a great balance of stability and control, with plenty of potential to attack down the flanks.
We pressed Madrid off the park a year ago, and we are set up to do that again tonight.
