You might think that Real Madrid would have been keen to avoid Chelsea in the Champions League quarter finals this season, having been beaten by the Blues last season.
But according to a source being quoted by the Athletic – that’s not true. In fact, Los Blancos are “not unhappy” to have drawn Chelsea.
They consider Liverpool and Manchester City tougher tests (probably fairly) and also enjoy the prospect of a chance at revenge against the team which knocked them out less than a year ago.
Chelsea’s loss to Brentford at the weekend won’t have done much to change that point of view, and while Madrid themselves needed some serious help from the referee to squeeze past Celta Vigo in their own game, it was a damn sight more impressive than losing 4-1 at home to a newly promoted team.
Let’s hope we can make them eat these words come Wednesday then.
