Chelsea are into the final run of the season, and it’s interesting to look at the patterns from this campaign and see where things went wrong and where things went right.
We certainly know who our favourite opponents were this season – our two highest xG performances according to FBRef came against Southampton. We beat the Saints 6-0 two weeks ago with an xG of 4.2, and way back in matchday 7 with a similarly impressive 3.6.
The most painful result of the season has to be the game against Man U at home in November. It was our 6th highest xG game of the season, but we only managed one goal and drew 1-1.
That was the day our title challenge started to fall away, with points dropped and the winter injury crisis closing in.
Our two games against Malmo produced a TOTAL of just 0.3 xG against us in the two games. Now that is what you call rock solid.
