Thomas Tuchel backs himself and sticks with shape that struggled

We knew Thomas Tuchel would make some changes for this game, but we certainly weren’t expecting this.

The Chelsea boss has stuck with the 433 formation that struggled so badly against Brentford last week, both in creating chances and defending in open play.

The real difference is Andreas Christensen playing at right back instead of Cesar Azpilicueta – so if anything, that’s a downgrade. The hope is presumably that Reece James can come on after an hour or so and add a weapon later on.

The midfield setup looks to be similar, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek playing deep, while Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante playing a little ahead of him.

You’ve got to respect the coach for backing himself and using the same shape that struggled so badly a week ago, but we have our doubts about it.

Southampton will press high and with good energy compared to us, after a dispiriting and physically draining midweek loss.

  1. Well, I think be4 the boss comes up with an idea of 4-3-3 formation he knows y and what is good for us but as for my view I think using 3-4-3 can go with this matcH bit it’s fine since selection has been made already!!!!
I wish my team the blues goodluck!!
    Lets go and do this….
