Thomas Tuchel delivers some home truths on the dipping form of Kai Havertz

Thomas Tuchel believes that a Kai Havertz from a few weeks back would have put the Manchester United game to bed last night.

The Blues ended up drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford and although historically and on paper that would often be classed as a very good result, United were terrible and Chelsea were fully dominant and should have easily won the game.

It was definitely a case of points dropped for Tuchel’s side and it was a familiar case of missed chances, lack of creativity, and a lack of finesse once again.

Havertz was tasked to lead the frontline once again, and before the last few matches, he had been in some fine form and really turning up as the Chelsea talisman. But his form has dipped and Tuchel has admitted this in his post-match interview.

He says that Havertz needs to fight back into his shape and rediscover his form.

“He needs to fight back into his shape,” Tuchel said on Havertz as cited by Football London. “It is like this, I have the same feeling. Hopefully, he shows a reaction. The guys are still young upfront and we will not start pointing fingers because lately, they have been very, very composed and very efficient in front of goal. Against Southampton and in the win at the Bernabeu, we took our chances very well and very precisely.

“It’s like this. When we look at the data and think about who plays and who does not play, we see a huge amount of intensity and sprints from Kai and Timo (Werner). So they don’t arrive fully, fully fresh at the moment in these matches and that’s why we will always protect them because it’s a team game we play and we demand a lot off the ball to have high recoveries. But I agree, in the last weeks, he had a kind of shape and form that he would’ve put this game to bed for us.”
