Thomas Tuchel finally admits takeover has affected players

Thomas Tuchel has been asked many times about the takeover at Chelsea, and many times he’s insisted it’s not a distraction, and that the players are just getting on with it.

Maybe because results are going against them, or maybe because the takeover is almost complete, but today saw him freely admit the whole process was affecting the team:

“It has [been a distraction] for sure. There’s no sense in hiding from the fact that it is a distraction. It is a matter of to which level we can reach even if we are distracted or worried or disadvantaged by it,” the Chelsea boss said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“The situation is now very, very long and the players also want to feel competitive and know what’s going on next season… It is no excuse but for sure is a reason.”

We don’t doubt it at all. The combination of the takeover with the uncertainty of the future of so many important players has combined to make the entire period post Champions League elimination feel like a strange limbo.

They’d better get their heads screwed on pretty soon though – their top four place is seriously at risk now.
