Now that the season is over we can look back over the whole campaign and look for the biggest outliers.
One interesting question we had was – which game did Chelsea concede the most expected goals?
Fascinatingly, it wasn’t in a loss – it was in a draw. Against Liverpool in August, the Blues took the lead through a great Kai Havertz header, but were then reduced to ten men after Reece James got a straight red for a handball on the line.
After that, it was a bit of a Liverpool siege of our goal, with Edouard Mendy coming up trumps. The Reds had an xG of 2.6 against us according to FBRef.
At full time we only had a draw, but there were huge and fist bumps all round. At that point it was only early days, but we felt like we were a team competing for the title.
