Chelsea can’t let Ethan Ampadu go with squad in current state

Ethan Ampadu wasn’t included in Chelsea’s squad to face Everton on Saturday, and he seemed close to a move away from the club given that he can’t even get on the bench – or get a squad number.

But perhaps today’s news that Malang Sarr has moved away keeps the door open for Ampadu? Levi Colwill has gone too.

We now have Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly, Cesar Azpilicueta as what appears to be our first choice back three. Trevoh Chalobah is the backuo. We expect another player to join, but that still leaves 5 players, when really we need 6 – especially given Azpi is also our primary right back cover.

So for all of Ethan’s disappointment at being left out on Saturday, he’s still got a brilliant chance of playing a decent role this season, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him get even 10-15 starts if there’s an injury or two.
