Chelsea today announced that they had signed Wesley Fofana from Leicester.
It concludes a couple of weeks of discussions, where some truly monster fees were being talked about.
Some sources had claimed that the Foxes were holding out for a figure above £80m, eclipsing the monster fee Manchester United had paid them for Harry Maguire.
But in the end, the total transfer fee will be £69.5m fixed fee, with no add ons. That’s significantly less than what was expected at times during this process.
🚨 Final fee in Wesley Fofana from Leicester to Chelsea deal understood to be £69.5m fixed, no add-ons. Also believed that #CFC value Anthony Gordon no higher than £40m so have no interest in going beyond that for Everton attacker @TheAthleticUK #LCFC #EFC https://t.co/bY5HJo5CsL

David Ornstein has the stats, and we believe him on matters like this.
It is a truly huge sum, but we’ve said many times that you shouldn’t worry about the fee as long as you the right player, and if we really believe Fofana is the man to play at the back for us for 15 years, those numbers will look small.
In fact, he can start playing well this season and start making it look better value with every good game.
