Chelsea chase second Everton star after Gordon deal falls through

Chelsea tried hard this summer to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton, but in the end their attempts came to nothing. But that’s not it. Caughtoffside have noted that the Blues are also interested in another player from the Toffees – Jordan Pickford.

The England goalkeeper is quite the character, and would certainly bring some new energy to the dressing room, but there are also plenty of doubts about his all around game. He’s too short for some people’s tastes, for one.

There is a sense that Chelsea’s current options are struggling, and that Graham Potter and his goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts will want to bring a new style to the way our keepers play, but even given that it’s hard to see Pickford being chosen as the best option, all things considered.

First things first – Potter needs time with Kepa and Edouard Mendy to see what options he has already and what he thinks of them.
