Kai Havertz given highest rating for impressive showing in front 2

Kai Havertz has been given top marks as the best player on the pitch in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

WhoScored gave him a rating of 8.3, higher than anyone on the pitch, unsurprising given he scored the winner with a superb bending left footed shot and was otherwise nicely involved in Chelsea’s build up play.

He won 4 aerial duels and made 3 successful dribbles, as part of what at times functioned as a two man strike force, with Havertz playing off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Getting more goals and better performances out of Havertz is vital for Graham Potter. His predecessors could never manage it, and it really cost them in the end. We would be very interested to see Havertz in a two with Armando Broja, who lacks some of Aubameyang’s finesse but has strength and speed to create other problems.

There’s plenty of experimenting to come, we hope.
