Chelsea’s World Cup break was a chance to regenerate and turn around the negative spiral that threatened the whole season.
But after a few weeks off, the first friendly back has seen some devastating news.
Armando Boja went down screaming and holding his knee, and was stretchered off after a long delay.
The whole incident, coming in a mid season friendly, is very reminiscent of Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s injury. The midfielder has arguably never been the same since, and it certainly set back his progress towards becoming a first team player by years.
Awful injury blow for Broja. Looks like Chelsea, barring any January signings, will have to navigate the second half of the season with Havertz and Aubameyang as the only real No 9 options #CFC

Broja was just getting his first chances in the first team, and with no top forwards ahead of him in the pecking order, he had an exceptional chance to prove himself in the second half of this season.
Instead, given this looks like a season ender, we’re going to be seeing a lot more Kai Havertz, a lot more Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – and maybe even a January striker signing too.
