Behdad Eghbali flexes his muscles as “key figure” in latest major deal

Todd Boehly is always the focus when it comes to Chelsea’s new ownership, mostly due to the way he fronted the bid to start with, but also as a shorthand for when we’re referring to all of those with say in how the club is run.

But the last few weeks have seen Behdad Eghbali remind everyone that he too is a co-controlling owner of the club, as he’s been more and more involved with January transfer negotiations.

That peaked today with multiple reports of his major influence in the Enzo Fernandez deal. Ben Jacobs said the Iranian born private equity mogul is “a key figure” in the push to sign the Benfica star.

He’s “not taking no from an answer.”

That kind of thing doesn’t come from Jacobs’ imagination. He’s either been told that by someone very close to the deal – or perhaps by Eghbali himself. Perhaps he’s keen to let the people know that he is as much of a player behind the scenes as Boehly is.
