“Can change the game” – Chelsea player gives verdict on crazy Joao Felix debut

Chelsea signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid just a few days back now, and he went straight into the starting line up last night at Fulham.

This shows exactly where this Chelsea squad are right now in terms of lacking qualities and options due to injuries. The instant difference that Felix made and the clear quality he has, instantly showed how poor some of the rest of this squad is and what we have been lacking.

Sources: Chelsea deep in discussions to sign Marcus Thuram!

Felix was very Eden Hazard-like with a talisman display in the first 60 minutes, and this was all until he got sent off for a rash tackle. This sums up his crazy debut.

Felix was being fouled himself left, right, and centre, and again, this was like having Hazard back in our team. It’s clear that he’s going to make a big difference, but so frustrating that he now misses the next three games.

Defender Kalidou Koulibaly had this to say after the game, via the Chelsea website: “He’s a talented player, an important player for us,” was Koulibaly’s verdict on Felix.

“We saw in the 60 minutes what he can do, a lot of good things. He can change the game, he can score and give some passes. We know he is going to help us, and having a player who can change the situation is good for the confidence of the team.”

  1. Hazard comparisons after 60 mins of action ending in a red card that pretty well cost us any chance of salvaging a result??? Simon, your over exuberance is breath-taking!

There’s never been a question about whether this kid has flare and ingenuity, but there are HUGE questions (still unanswered after 60 mins, lol!) about whether he’s a “fit” for this squad (that has no true #9) and can produce quality performances consistently (one of the knocks on him in his young career). I hope for his sake and ours that he proves out, but i just don’t see how you can crown the guy a “talisman” after one performance, let alone THAT performance. And now we’ll have to wait three more games before we get to see whether he can further justify the hype. Grrrr!
