Chelsea set for second attempt at Enzo Fernandez

After this morning’s whispers from Portugal, sources in England are starting to take up the story that Chelsea will make a second bid for Enzo Fernandez before the window closes.

Football.London say we’re “expected” to make a second approach before the end of the month.

The midfielder was the subject of an intense week of bidding in early January before it became clear that Benfica weren’t going to accept anything below his €120m release clause.

The fact that Chelsea have spent €150m or so since then has made most people discount our chances of completing a deal for Fernandez this January  – and perhaps at all – but these latest reports are that we will push hard for him again before the window is out.

We would be truly curious how the new owners would square another monster transfer fee off with our Financial Fair Play obligations.

After pushing for a move, Enzo is back playing for the Eagles and picked up two assists in their win over Santa Clara at the weekend.
