Chelsea believe Andrey Santos’ superb Brazil U20 showings will help with work permit

Andrey Santos has yet to pull on a Chelsea shirt, but he’s already making Blues fans sit up and take notice.

Since signing in January, the midfielder has been on duty with the Brazil youth side at the prestigious South American U20 Championships. He and his team have been tearing it up, and with two games to go sit top of the table after another win last night.

When this tournament is finished his future will be open for debate – will he come directly to Chelsea, or go on loan back to Brazil, or to Europe somewhere? It really comes down to whether he can get a UK work permit.

Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade has written this morning that the teen’s superb successes with his country should give him great grounds to pick up a permit on appeal.

However he also notes that if it’s not enough, there are a number of Brazilian teams competing in the Copa Libertadores who would love to take the box to box monster in.
