“Chelsea never” – Blues’ Marcel Sabitzer deadline day links played down

Chelsea certainly won the January transfer window this year, and they also won transfer deadline day yesterday.

The Enzo Fernandez saga was crazy yesterday, and although Chelsea have yet to officially announce him, all sources have said it was done and done in time. Chelsea will announce very soon.

Re-live every single report and situation that happened for Chelsea on transfer deadline day!

It was a very dramatic day, and at one point some reports tried to say the deal was about to again collapse, and there was even links of alternatives being looked at. Personally I never got into any of that as it had a feeling all month that Chelsea would sign Enzo.

But Chelsea’s name was thrown into the hat yesterday for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who ended up joining Manchester United on loan yesterday as one of the many big stories of the day.

Fabrizio Romano though, has completely played down Chelsea’s links to Sabitzer in his exclusive CaughtOffside column the Daily Briefing.

“Manchester United were not planning for any move before the Christian Eriksen injury. It changed on Deadline Day after medical check for Eriksen,” Romano said.

“Erik ten Hag has always appreciated Marcel Sabitzer, thinks he’s an underrated player. I think on loan it’s a very smart signing.”

He added: “Despite reports, Chelsea never opened talks for Sabitzer.”
