Former Blue thinks Chelsea played ‘a different way’ vs West Ham but player did nothing ‘of note’

Chelsea will now be already thinking about their Champions League game tomorrow night against Dortmund in the last 16 of the competition, but the West Ham league game from Saturday stays fresh in the mind.

It was another frustrating end result with The Blues unable to get all three points despite taking an early lead. They will know they need to improve results, but their was some signs of improvement on the pitch at least.

The first 25 minutes Chelsea were very good, and former Blue William Gallas believes he saw Graham Potter’s men playing in a different way, which is meant in a positive way.

As cited by Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, the former Chelsea defender was pleased with how Chelsea started the game and there were a few names that stood out to him.

Unfortunately though, there was a name that he wasn’t too impressed with, and that was Marc Cucurella.

William Gallas: “I thought Chelsea played in a different way [against West Ham] to what we’ve seen from them recently. They now have players with real quality.

“Enzo Fernandez looks good, he has great qualities. His passes are perfect and he always looks forward. He got a nice assist for Joao Felix in the game.

“I didn’t see enough of Mykhailo Mudryk in the match. He found it difficult, but I think that is normal because he is a new arrival and he is very young.

“Marc Cucurella, didn’t do anything of note in the game in my opinion. Ben Chilwell, he came on and, in the 25 minutes he played, he did more than Cucurella.

“There were good signs for Chelsea in this performance [against West Ham]. The football was better, but they still have the same problems at the back. They still have somewhat of a problem on the left side.”
