Chelsea didn’t score a goal tonight – a sentence we’ve written too many times this season – but they did defend well.
That was mainly down to Thiago Silva, who put in another masterclass at the back.
The 38 year old is just amazing, but his importance is going to go beyond just defending now, as Gary Neville pointed out on Sky’s coverage after the game.
The former Man U man pointed out that as well as keeping clean sheets, the experienced defender (who was captain tonight) will have to try and “somehow hold that dressing room together.
You can see Neville’s comments in the clip from Sky Sports embedded here:
🗣️ “I thought Thiago Silva was sensational. He impresses me every time I see him. He’s a world class player. He’s so important to them. He has to somehow hold that dressing room together.”@GNev2 on Thiago Silva. 🇧🇷 pic.twitter.com/FEfSXY606J

Chelsea have added a host of new players, from all over the world, and they’re all playing for a coach who is also pretty new to operating at this level.
Silva on the other hand has seen it all and won it all.
