‘Graham Potter does like’ Premier League striker after fresh links

One of the only areas that Chelsea did not really address in January was the striker position.

Whilst they did make signings in attack, they still didn’t really bring in a natural number nine, other than David Datro Fofana, who might perhaps be described as a little raw still.

But right now, they continue to go with Kai Havertz as the striker, and not only is he playing poor, he never looks good as a lone striker, so this is far from ideal.

It remains to be seen whether Fofana can step up and become that guy up top, but either way, Chelsea are starting to be linked with potential new number nine’s for the summer now.

One of them is Brentford striker Ivan Toney, but of course, he is in the middle of betting charges right now and might even face a ban from football soon. But Chelsea are keen on him, according to Ben Jacobs in his latest exclusive column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.

He says: “Chelsea are very likely to add a traditional striker in summer. They have lots of names on their radar.

“It’s true, Graham Potter does like Ivan Toney, but I am sure they’ll watch closely how he’s punished for alleged gambling charges before discussing further. I don’t think there’s anything too concrete on Toney yet. It’s one to watch as we head towards the summer.”
