Kepa’s league leading save percentage is impressive – but doesn’t tell the whole story

Kepa Arrizabalaga has established himself as Graham Potter’s number one option in goal, and has actually played some good games for the Blues coach.

On Twitter, one Chelsea fan pointed out that the Spaniard’s percentage of shots saved is better than any other Premier League keeper this season. In terms of a simple, understandable stat, you don’t get much better than that.

It’s all part of a slow but steady movement among Chelsea fans to rehabilitate the Spaniard’s reputation as a potential number one. This certainly marks a vast improvement from his league worst save % of a few years ago, but for us the problem isn’t him as a shot stopper, it’s him when faced with corners and high balls.

Let’s not let his good form distract us from the fact he’s cost us points in the last few weeks, as well as having some good games.
