Lukaku back on track after “worst injury in 13 years”

Romelu Lukaku scored an important goal for Inter last night as he tucked away a rebound to give them a 1-0 win over Porto in the Champions League.

Chelsea fans are always following his progress to see how he gets on, hoping that an upturn in form will lead to Inter Milan turning the loan deal into a permanent one.

So far, apart from the goal this week, his time on the pitch has been limited, let alone his actual impact. The striker was hit by what appeared to be a pretty minor problem back in the Autumn, but the Athletic’s piece on his season so far reveals it was more serious than anyone thought.

“Lukaku snapped a microtendon in his flexor over the autumn, an injury he considers the worst he has suffered in 13 years,” James Horncastle wrote.

That was only made worse by a half fit return to play at the World Cup in November.

It’s bad news for Lukaku that he was hurt like that, but the bright side is that we can hopefully expect a big improvement now that he’s fit again. There’s still plenty of time left in the season to make an impact.
