Lukaku wants Inter stay – but CEO admits he “will return to Chelsea” initially

Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer, according to Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta.

Sempre Inter have the first English translated quotes from Marotta, who was pretty clear that he would like to keep the Belgian striker, but had accepted a deal wasn’t going to be easy to do.

Chelsea bought the striker for huge money, then loaned him after just a season. He’s been injured for most of this campaign, and cash strapped Inter don’t look like they’ll be buying him outright anytime soon.

“In June, he’ll return to Chelsea and then it will be a new scenario before us, and we’ll see what we can do,” Marotta explained.

“He wants to stay, so definitely knowing what he wants, we’ll see if we’re able to go back to negotiations and negotiate a return here with us for next season.”

Much as they did last summer, Chelsea may feel it’s worth sucking it up and accepting whatever Inter will offer, just to get the problem off their books for another year. All we can know for sure from these quotes is that Marotta is ready to play hardball and really take advantage of our weakness.
