Football reporter Graeme Bailey has reported on 90 min that Chelsea had an approach “turned down” by Mauricio Pochettino.
Todd Boehly wants to keep Graham Potter at the helm but showed interest in Pochettino last week only for him to be turned down by the former Spurs manager.
It is alarming if true, one of the only reasons Graham Potter could leave Chelsea is if the fans inside the ground continue to be hostile yet bringing in the former Spurs manager Pochettino would only cause more hostility.
I dread to think what would happen with Pochettino on the side-lines at Chelsea, a talented coach but the core Chelsea fans would not be against the move from day one which would not lead to a good end conclusion.
Graeme’s reliability is in my opinion not up there with the elite journalists such as Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein but it is interesting nonetheless.
Not sure I understand what “an approach” means here. Boehly & Co have stated unequivocally that they are backing Potter come he’ll or high water, so this reporting suggests that they nonetheless reached out to Poch and, what, he refused to take the call? Not sure I believe that they made an approach in the first place (given how badly it would undermine their credibility with Potter, let alone the public). And the idea that Poch (who has what other prospects?) would rebuff them if they did? I find that even more difficult to believe. Sorry, multiple independent sources needed before I guy this one.
