Josko Gvardiol has revealed inside details behind his last few months and reveals he was close to joining Chelsea.
Gvardiol was rumoured to be joining Chelsea after the Blues launched a £77m bid towards deadline day of summer 2022. The then potential deal included the promise to loan Gvardiol back to Leipzig until the end of this current season, but Leipzig declined.
Speaking to Tom Roddy from The Times, Gvardiol said : “My agent called me and said that Chelsea is extremely interested and, of course, you definitely think about a serious offer from a huge club like Chelsea”
“Leipzig said they didn’t want to sell me. In the end I really struggled with that decision but we didn’t make an agreement. It is what it is. I am here and I am fine with this because my idea had been to stay here”
This is just my opinion but I do not think Chelsea will go back in for Gvardiol now, the club have Levi Colwill to integrate and also signed Benoit Badiashile in January, so they seem well stocked for the left centre back position with both of those players also being young. Chelsea also still have Kalido Koulibaly, although he can play right centre back to a decent level as seen on Saturday against Southampton.
