Chelsea have announced the signing of Southampton youth striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
The 17 year old joins for a reported £3m, with claims of bonuses that could make that significantly higher, presumably based on first team appearances.
Jim Fraser and Neil Bath are continuing to find the best talent in the country at under 18 level to strengthen the academy, and in JJ they have a gem – he’s a supreme finisher and has been scoring for fun in the Saints youth system. He’s got 6 goals and 5 assists in 13 games this season.

One of those writers who was reporting the deal last night gave some insight onto JJ’s thinking. The youngster was a Blue as a kid, but left the academy due to the difficulties travelling to Cobham from his parents house.

Now he’s old enough to move he’s been able to return to the academy, and it’s explained that he feels it’s a “homecoming.”
