Permanent transfer for academy star falls through

Hull City yesterday tried to sign Xavier Simons permanently from Chelsea after a good first half of the season on loan.

The academy product look set to make the move, but in the end the paperwork couldn’t be done in time, and the fact that all of Chelsea’s suits were working up to the wire on the Enzo Fernandez deal likely prevented this one being done in time.

All being well, one would imagine that the move happens this summer instead.

Hakim Ziyech’s proposed loan to PSG was another move that broke down because of the resource drain of the efforts to get Enzo signed.

However in Simons’ case he can at least still remain on loan and developing and hopefully complete the deal in the summer, while poor Ziyech will likely spend the next few months rotting on the bench and waiting for the day the window opens again.
