We’ve all heard about the sticky situation Hakim Ziyech ended up in at the end of January, and today Roma director of football Tiago Pinto had added more detail.
In quotes picked up by the Evening Standard, he claimed that his team had been in contact with the winger too, and that they all sympathised with the player over the disaster that ended up unfolding, as a deadline day move to PSG fell apart for administrative reasons, and Ziyech was left to trudge back to Chelsea.
“It’s true that we spoke to Ziyech’s agents and Chelsea about him, he was one of our targets,” Pinto explained as he summed up his team’s window.
“I’m sorry for what happened to him, it was difficult for him, but those who say we were in contact with Ziyech’s agents were right.”
The good news is that it sounds like Roma will still be a good option for Ziyech come the summer, when he will surely get his much desired move away. Nicolo Zaniolo ended up leaving the Italian side after the window closed, so they’re already even shorter in wide attacking positions than they were when they were interested in Ziyech.
