Two players who had slow starts to the season could be crucial for Chelsea – starting tomorrow

Both Denis Zakaria and Wesley Fofana are on Chelsea’s flight to Dortmund, meaning both are going to be fit enough at least for the bench in the Champions League game tomorrow.

We would expect some minutes off the bench, then they could start either this weekend against Southampton, or in the return game against Dortmund next week.

It’s an important moment for the squad, and for both players. Zakaria was playing really well before his injury, and has a profile which the squad otherwise lacks. We expect him to get plenty of game time before the end of the season, despite the new signings that have arrived in his absence.

Fofana is another interesting case – we spent big money on him in the summer, but in a back four where Thiago Silva and Benoit Badiashile are shining there’s not much room for Fofana at the moment.

The fact that Badiashile isn’t registered to play in the Champions League and Fofana is means that summer signing will likely get most of his action this season in Europe – possibly starting tomorrow.
