Worrying scenes at Stamford Bridge as Cesar Azpilicueta is stretchered off after long treatment

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has just been stretchered off in some very worrying scenes at Stamford Bridge.

It appeared he caught a boot to the face at a corner, and after going down the surrounding players called for the physios right away.

Soon after a stretcher was brought out, and the medica were on the pitch surrounding him for some time. Various waves of doctors came from the bench with different equipment.

He may have been knocked out or have suffered some serious bleeding, we’re not quite sure. We just hope he’s ok. It was more than ten minutes before they managed to get him off, and there’s no way they would have kept him there on the pitch unless it was too serious to move him.

He seemed to be conscious as he left the pitch, to a predictably enormous and sympathetic ovation from the worried crowd at Stamford Bridge.
