There’s not much proper news around today on the Chelsea beat, so Athletic correspondent Liam Twomey has chosen to take a broader look at the club’s transfers policy, through the lens of Myhailo Mudryk.
Twomey points out that even though Chelsea spent big money on him in January – enough to make him the centre piece of their attack – they haven’t done anything to help him.
In fact, in our last game he was being played in an unfamiliar false 9 role. The 343 system we’ve won with in our last 3 games has not used wingers at all – leaving Mudryk and fellow January signing Noni Madueke somewhat out in the cold.
As Twomey points out, it’s nice to have options and the ability to play many different ways – but it still leaves both of them facing a tough task in their first few months at a new club as they try to impress.
