“He brings pace… a different dimension” – Potter on using Mudryk up front

Graham Potter has handed winger Mykhailo Mudryk his first start in a while this afternoon with Raheem Sterling out injured, and before the game the coach explained what he wanted from his January signing.

“He brings pace and power that’s going to be important. He gives a different dimension,” the Potter explained.

“He’s a young player that has been fighting to get in the team. He’s ready to help so a good time for him with Raheem unavailable.”

From the sounds of it, Potter was planning to use Mudryk in the same striker role that he used Sterling in in midweek, threatening the back line with speed and pressing defenders on the ball.

After a few minutes of the game it was very clear that that was going to be the case. So far, Mudryk has been the player furthest forward, with Kai Havertz and Joao Felix playing in the spaces behind him.

The Ukrainian hasn’t had many chances yet, but with Leicester now pushing forward there’s going to be so much space for him behind and he can hopefully cause some damage.
