Atalanta chief in London to discuss striker deal

Atalanta have made a habit of uncovering great players in recent years, and the latest gem uncovered by the Bergamasques is Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish striker only arrived in the summer but has already proven himself a great buy, scoring 7 goals in 25 Serie A games and looking every part the modern number 9, even as a 20 year old.

No wonder then that we’re hearing endless links to top clubs for a summer transfer, and Chelsea appear to be very much in the mix.

According to local paper Corriere du Bergamo, Atalanta sporting director Luca Percassi flew to London to speak to Chelsea about a €68m move for the forward in the summer.

Given the hot competition out there for the forward, it looks like it really might take a figure of that size to sign him. If he keeps up this scoring form through the final games of the season, few will be complaining about that sum, however.

  1. Seven goals in 25 games? I admit I haven’t watched him, but those numbers aren’t super impressive. I checked an his non-penalty goals + assists per 90 mins is 0.62. That’s only a shade better than our makeshift #9 Havertz’s 0.53. So, maybe the kid has tons of upside potential, but when your throw out numbers like €68 million it ought to cause folks to stop and go, huh? He’s posted good (but certainly not great) numbers in Serie A. Is he really worth that kind of money to come and lead the line in the EPL. I, for one, think we need to set our sights good deal higher!
