Chelsea have just announced the sensational return of Frank Lampard as manager, this time on a short term deal until the end of the season to act as caretaker.
The club are deep into their search to find a new man to lead the club long term, but after Bruno Salter took Tuesday night’s game, a medium term solution was needed to guide the team through the remaining wreckage of this season while those upstairs do their due diligence.
It’s potentially a good move all round. Lampard gets another chance to manage at the very top, and with the bar set very low can hopefully help lift morale and get his talented squad playing well.
Meanwhile Chelsea’s owners get a free hit PR wise, and can take the heat off themselves a little after overseeing the Graham Potter debacle.
Our fixtures to end the season are tricky however, and things don’t get harder than a tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals.
