Chelsea celebrate good chances, despite bad result – which is just annoying

Chelsea’s official site have put up a graphic which shows how many good chances they had in the game against Liverpool last night.

The Blues managed 2.2 expected goals (xG), while Liverpool only managed 0.4. But the curse of our bad finishing and bad decision making struck again, and we ended up with the same number of goals as them – 0.

The 2.2 doesn’t even include the disallowed goal which Kai Havertz put in from close range.

You can see the full graphic here:

The problem is that, just like Graham Potter pointed to the low xG of the John McGinn shot that defeated us at the weekend, nobody cares about how good the chances you had or how bad the chances were against you if you don’t win.

In fact, racking up big xG without scoring is actually more frustrating, if anything. Especially if you’ve seen it game after game for multiple seasons now.
