Chelsea fans cheers Sterling substitution – and some in the stands have words with winger

Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and he reported on much of the bad vibes at the stadium.

He noted that some fans rose to cheer sarcastically when Raheem Sterling was substituted, and that other rose from their seats to shout criticism at him after a totally anonymous display.

It’s a tough one really. One never really likes to see abuse or criticism which goes over the line when it comes to players, but when a fanbase has been tortured with dreadful underperformances for as long as those at Stamford Bridge have, you can understand why they’re so angry.

Sterling’s performance was indeed poor, and his effort levels inexcusable. One can easily understand why fans were happy to cheer him off. The same could be said of plenty of players in this group however, and you don’t want to see one player get targeted more than others.
