Chelsea are 5.5 decimal odds to beat Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter Final on Wednesday.
That means if you bet £1 on Chelsea to win, you’d get £5.50 back if they managed it. That means the odds are implying a percentage chance of just 18% for the Blues to get that result.
If anything, that’s pretty high from what we’ve seen from Chelsea this season. The bookies are being generous even with a paltry 18%, from what we’ve seen.
There’s no doubt that Real Madrid are a flawed side this season, and have plenty of weaknesses. But as always with Carlo Ancelotti sides, and with Madrid in particular, they tend to raise their game on Champions League nights, and that’s what we expect to see on Wednesday.
They will smell blood in the water when a confused and ragged Chelsea come to the Bernabeu, and 18% may start to look pretty generous.
